Description
Partisan of the Great Patriotic War Medal 2nd class
Found in a Belarus Barn
Partisan Medal: made of brass. It measures 32.14 mm in diameter, 2.61 mm in thickness weighs 15.7 gram.
This original Partisan medal is in nice condition considering it has been exposed to the elements for 75 years. The obverse shows few dings and scratches and little overall wear. The higher laying parts such as Lenin’s and Stalin’s eyelids are present and even the hammer and sickle at its bottom is visible. The reverse shows a little wear either and the edges of the letters are clearly defined.
The person who found the medal handled it clumsy and accidentally broke off the eyelet. I repaired this and the eyeled seems to hold the weight of the medal perfectly. The original suspension misses its stickpin and almost all of the ribbon is gone. I therefor used another time period suspension and a ribbon to make the medal complete. I will of course ship the other suspension with the medal to the new owner.
The Medal “To a Partisan of the Patriotic War” (Russian: Медаль Партизану Отечественной войны) was a World War II Soviet award established in two classes. This was done on February 2, 1943, by decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. It recognised the courage of the partisans in their struggle to free the Soviet Motherland behind enemy lines. Its statute was amended by a further decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in 1947.
