Description
Order of the Red Star #85173
Awarded to Engineer Colonel Aleksander Pavlovich Orlov (Александр Павлович Орлов)
Col. Orlov worked at the Kulebaki Metallurgical Production Association (plant №178) or Kulebaki steel works which produced armour plates for T-60 and T-34 tanks
Made of silver and enamels. The order measures 48.65 mm in width, 46.79 mm in height and weighs 29.7 grams without its screwplate. The serial number is located at the 6 o’clock position and the mint mark on the 12 o’clock position of its reverse. This early variation has a round base ‘heel’ of the screw.
In pristine, well above average condition. The details of the raised silver parts like the soldier and lettering are crisp and show minor traces of wear only. The wine red enamels are stunning without any dings or scratches and are without repairs. The reverse of the order is in excellent condition too and both sides show an appealing dark toning to the silver. The long ‘scratches’ on its reverse are not scratches but production imperfections. This can clearly be seen at the point they meet the serial number. Its screwpost is full length and the order comes with its time period and well fitted silver screwplate.
An early award, next to impossible to upgrade. Scarce as such!
