Order of the Red Star #56293

Awarded to Lieutenant Ivan Fedorovich Petrov (Иван Федорович Петров)

For repelling all the enemy attacks (which outnumbered the Soviet forces by several times) and destroying 500 enemy soldiers, 2 high calibre machine-guns, 4 heavy and 1 light machine-guns

Lt. Petrov also fought against the 4th Gebirgs-Division under command of General Karl Eglseer.

Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 46.76 mm in height, 48.52 mm in width and weighs 31.8 grams. The serial number is located at the 6 o’clock position and the mint mark on the 12 o’clock position of its reverse. This early variation has a round base ‘heel’ of the screw.

This original Red Star order is in nice condition with lots of character. The higher parts on the obverse show medium to strong wear but the enamels are problem free and only show some small contact marks and dings. The serial number and mint mark are crisp and there have been no repairs. Its screwpost is full length and it comes with its time period and well fitted silver screwplate.

Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merits

Commander of the 5th rifle company, VKP(b) member PETROV IVAN FEDOROVICH has been leading his unit in the combat defensive actions since 28 of August. He leads his men by personal example of courage and inspires them for heroic feats. Comrade PETROV masterfully organised defence and repelled all the enemy attacks by a superior force. The enemy attacked by several times stronger (up to 2 infantry regiments) force on 29 August, trying to break through PETROV’s unit sector of defence. Despite that, comrade PETROV, as a tactically skilled commander, resolved this objective and fended off the enemy thrust by his unit. The enemy left up to 500 dead on the battlefield, 2 high caliber machine-guns, 4 heavy and 1 light machine-guns.

For exhibited courage and effective command in a combat operation, for his devotion to the cause of  LENIN-STALIN party and the Socialist Motherland, the Command recommends comrade PETROV to be bestowed with order “RED STAR”
