Awarded to Private Vasiliy Titovich Kurin (Василий Титович Курин)

 

For actions on July 19, 1943, near Balki Chipilkina in the Voroshilovgrad (now Luhansk) region, where under enemy machine-gun and mortar fire, he laid 30 anti-tank and 150 anti-personnel mines and ensured the delivery of over 100 additional mines to the battlefield

 

 

Note that Kurin was bestowed his Red Star in 1943, but it took decades before he actually received it. Hence the high serial number

 

 

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 48.29 mm in width, 45.87 mm in height and weighs 30.5 grams without its screwplate. The serial number is located at the 6 o’clock position and the mint mark on the 12 o’clock position of its reverse.

 

In near mint condition with stunning enamels, free from repairs and flaking. Its details are perfectly crisp and both sides show few contact marks only. Its screw is full length and the comes with a well fitting screwplate.

Kurin Vasiliy Titovich – soldier and sapper of the 118th Engineering-Sapper Battalion, 7th Engineering-Sapper Brigade.

On July 19, 1943, near Balki Chipilkina in the Voroshilovgrad (now Luhansk) region, under enemy machine-gun and mortar fire, he laid 30 anti-tank and 150 anti-personnel mines. That same day, under the same conditions, he ensured the delivery of over 100 mines to the battlefield.

For his personal heroism, bravery, and courage, Kurin was recommended for the Medal “For Courage.” [Later upgraded tot an Order of the Red Star.]
