Order of the Red Star #331125

 

Awarded to Sr. Lieutenant Petr Avramovich Shapovalov (Петр Аврамович Шаповалов)

 

For destroying 1 heavy machine-gun and eliminating up to 20 enemy troops when firing with shrapnel from a distance of 30 meters

 

Lt. Shapovalov was also awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky 

 

 

Made of silver and enamels. The order measures 47.74 mm in width, 46.48 mm in height and weighs 26.5 grams without its screwplate. The serial number is located at the 6 o’clock position and the mint mark on the 12 o’clock position of its reverse.

 

In damaged but presentable condition with light to medium wear on the center medallion portraying the solder. The enamels are without repairs but show significant loss in the 7 o’clock ray of the star and a small chip at the very tip of the 12 o’clock ray. The reverse is in better condition with an appealing dark patina and its serial number and mint mark perfectly visible. Its screwpost is full length and the order comes with a time period screwplate.

Recommendation for order “RED STAR” :

In the offensive operations, comrade SHAPOVALOV exhibited his courage, bravery, and commander’s skill in leading his unit.
He is always among the combat formations and his cannons follow closely the advancing rile troops.
On the approaches to the town Yartsevo near the village Petrova, he was among the fighting rifle troops. On several occasions, when the enemy attempted counter-attacks, comrade SHAPOVALOV rolled out his cannons and fired with open sights at the attacking enemy. He destroyed 1 heavy machine-gun. Firing with shrapnel from the distance of 30m, he eliminated up to 20 enemy troops. On the approaches to the town Smolensk, he provided artillery supported to the advancing rifle troops.

He deserves to be bestowed with order “RED STAR”.
