Variation of the Order of the Red Star with Rivets
Awarded to Senior Sergeant Semyon Ivanovich Taran (Семен Иванович Таран)
Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 46.16 mm in height and 48.21 mm in width. It weighs 30.7 gram. The serial number is located at the 6 o’clock position and the mint mark on the 12 o’clock position of its reverse. This early variation has three rivets on its reverse. The minimum known serial number is 24417 and the maximum number is 28750
This original order of the Red Star is in nice but worn condition. Some of the higher parts on the obverse show wear. Many details however are still visible. The enamel has many dings and scratches but is problem free apart from a small repair at the tip of the 7 o’clock ray of the star. The serial number and mint mark are crisp and the screwpost is full length. It comes with its time period silver screwplate.

Brief description of the personal military deed or feats:
During the military actions with the German Fascists Senior Sergeant Taran featured fortitude, courage and heroism.
Being the Division Commander and the Assistant for the Detachment Commander showed excellent results of execution of military orders to defeat German occupants. Showed his personal example in encouraging the soldiers to defeat the enemies in the region of Pervomaisk, Greygovo, etc.
During the offensive battles TARAN executed the position of the Detachment Commander . During the offensive battles in NOVO-PLATONOVKA-NOV.-ALEKSANDROVKA in the first echelons TARAN and his detachment provoked great loss for the enemies: 40 soldiers and officers were killed or wounded, 2 machine-guns and 1 mine thrower, also a big number of other guns captured. TARAN’S Detachment suffered a small loss.
Senior Sergeant Taran was honored with the Order of the Red Star for his fortitude, courage and heroism.
