Short excerpt and translation of the research:
“Member of the Patriotic War from 06/18/1942 as part of the 61st Guards Bomber Aviation Division, a separate field regiment.
During this period, he did a lot of work to ensure the preparation of the materiel for the performance of combat missions. Having worked for more than 6 months as interim senior technician of the aviation squadron, has shown high examples of dedication to combat in the organization of work and management of the technical staff subordinate to him. During this period, the Squadron flew over 900 combat sorties in difficult conditions – winter and spring. At the same time, there were failures of the material part and absence of aircraft: on combat missions due to the fault of the technical staff. Especially a lot of work has been done to restore the material part. On his initiative with personal participation in August 1942 near STALINGRAD in field conditions by a technical brigade headed by comrade Novikov, 4 combat aircraft were repaired and put into operation. In April and May 1943, when the situation with the material part became difficult, on his own initiative he again created a brigade of technical staff in the amount of 6 people and in difficult field conditions in the absence of a PARM-1, in absence of a set of engine parts, a set of tools, especially for repairing the airframe, collecting engine parts in various places, within 11 days he restored 5 combat aircraft, which were put into operation for fighting. The damaged aircraft required repair in the workshops, as they required replacement of engines and major repairs of stabilizers, but comrade NOVIKOV showed initiative, resourcefulness and dedication excellently organized aircraft repairs and achieved success. Some of the restored aircraft could not carry out combat work, but they made it possible to commission 15 young pilots, to free combat aircraft from communications work. Leading a group of technical personnel at the jump airfield since November 1943, the group served 2483 sorties, and personally, comrade NOVIKOV, after the first award, served 261 sorties. During the liberation of Crimea, the work of the technical staff was organized excellently, without a single case of delay in the material part on the ground due to the fault of the technical staff. He excellently knows the material part of the plane and the engine.”
