Order of the Red Star #1889809

 

Awarded to the Estonian Sergeant Louis Janovich Soonems (Луй Янович Соонемс)

 

For bravery in the in the battle for the liberation of the island of Muhu on September 30, 1944. As a commander of a landing group operating on tanks, he broke into the enemy’s battle formations and acted decisively and skillfully with vehicle fire. He and his group destroyed up to a platoon of Hitlerists, which contributed to the rapid advance of our units and the liberation of Muhu island

 

Relatively uncommon variation produced in the Moscow Platinpribor Factory (MZPP)

 

 

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 47.78 mm in width, 46.36 mm in height and weighs 29.0 grams without its screwplate. The serial number is located at the 6 o’clock position and the mint mark on the 12 o’clock position of its reverse.

 

In great, well above average condition with a medium patina to the silver on both sides. Its details are mostly visible and even the raised parts show light wear only. The beautiful wine red enamels are very well preserved and without repairs. There have been no repairs and its screwpost has no been shortened. The order comes with its time period and well fitted screwplate.

“On September 30, 1944, in the battle for the liberation of the island of Muhu, Sergeant Soonete Lui Yanovich, being the commander of a landing group operating on tanks, broke into the enemy’s battle formations and acted decisively and skillfully with vehicle fire, his group destroying up to a platoon of Hitlerists, which contributed to the rapid advance of our units and the liberation of Muhu island.
