Description
Soviet Order of the Red Star #121876
Awarded to Captain Fedor Ivanovich Aleksandrov (Федор Иванович Александров)
For conducting a rescue operation for a sailor who went astray in the tundra under the most harsh weather conditions. Aleksandrov also served on several submarines in the 1930s
Made of silver and enamels. The order measures 48.28 mm in width, 47.09 mm in height and weighs 29.8 gram without its screwplate. The serial number is located at the 6 o’clock position and the mint mark on the 12 o’clock position of its reverse. This early variation has a separate round base ‘heel’ of the screw.
A truly stunning piece in a pristine, well above average condition. Its details are crisp and the higher laying parts on the soldier show light wear only. The enamels are beautiful and without repairs with virtually no contact marks. The reverse is in excellent condition too and both sides show an appealing dark patina. The screwpost is full length and the order comes with its time period silver screwplate.
Next to impossible to upgrade such an early Red Star
Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merits for his Red Star
Comrade ALEKSANDROV took active part in organisation of the local Communist party and KOMSOMOL organisations, as well as in the following political work. Regardless of weather and polar night period, he was always among the troops and provided required practical help. Comrade ALEKSANDROV helped during unloading of the transport ships, which were embarked at the Belushya Guba port and were under danger of being frozen in. Comrade ALEKSANDROV worked up to waist in icy water unloading lumber, thus showing an example to all other command personnel.
The winter came early during the building construction period. There was not enough sailors-workers and the lodging was scarce. Comrade ALEKSANDROV showed an example and was one of the first to take up practical work in house construction, working without rest nor sleep. He inspired other commanding personnel for practical work.
He executed a number of difficult task given by the Command. In March 1943, comrade ALEKSANDROV together with a group of soldiers conducted a rescue operation for sailor who went astray in tundra. They had to walk in blizzard and sleep on the snow. He lead his subordinates by example.
I recommend comrade ALEKSANDROV for the state award – order “Red Star”.
