Researched Soviet Order of the Red Banner #70948

Григорьев Яков Федорович

Awarded to Major Yakov Fedorovich Grigoriev (Яков Федорович Григорьев)

For courage and heroism facing the attacking enemy and destroying 2 tanks and a substantial number of troops in the process

This order of the Red Banner made of solid silver and enamels. It measures 40.94 mm in height, 36.76 mm in width and weighs 25.7 gram without its screwplate. The serial number and the mint mark Monetni Dvor are located at the 6 o’clock position of its reverse.

The order is in excellent, above average condition with light to medium overall wear. Even the higher laying parts such as the centre wreath and the torch still show their details. The enamels are in better condition than most early Red Banners. Apart from some flaking on the red parts all is present and without repairs. The white enamel is flawless and also original. The order has not been converted and the screw has not been shortened. It comes with its time period and well fitted silver screwplate.

Short Description of his feat of arms:

“Guards captain GRIGORIEV exhibited courage and heroism facing the attacking enemy infantry and armour in the combat engagements near the village Romanovka during the Schigrovskaya operation. The enemy threw 8 tanks followed by up to a battalion of infantry at the regiment defences. Guards Captain GRIGORIEV was left as the acting regiment commander, while the Commander and the Commissar were summoned to the divisional headquarters. Thank to his skill and dedication, he managed to fend off the enemy attack.

The enemy lost 2 destroyed tanks and substantial number of troops. The defending regiment stood its ground and didn’t go a single step back”
