Awarded to the highly decorated Major Vasily Stepanovich Skubak (Василий Степанович Скубак)

 

For crushing the 6th army at Stalingrad 

 

 

Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 39.94 mm in height, 36.30 mm in width and weighs 23.8 grams without its screwplate. The mint mark and serial number are located on the bottom of its reverse.

 

In a decent but worn condition with most details visible and crisp. The enamel shows loss on all rays of the centre star and on the left side of the top banner. The reverse is better condition with few dings or scratches and a lovely dark patina. There have been no repairs and the screwpost has not been shortened. It comes with its time period silver screwplate.

 

Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or achievements:

“In the battles against the German occupiers in Odessa, the Crimea and at Stalingrad, he proved himself to be a staunch brave commander, a devoted son of our Motherland. During the withdrawal of parts of the division to the city of Stalingrad on August 31, 1942, in the battle near Tsibenko, Yagodny, Popov, being on the open firing position of one of the batteries of the division entrusted to him, he bravely and skillfully led the fire on attacking enemy tanks, despite the fire of aircraft, he managed to hold up the tanks at the turn west of Popov, Yagodny and did not allow a breakthrough of tanks on Elkhi, Beketovka. During the offensive on November 20-23, 1942 and during the defeat of the encircled group of German troops in January 1943, being the commander of the artillery group of the rifle regiment, he bravely and skillfully directed the artillery fire, which helped the rifle regiment to complete the assigned tasks.
