Description
Soviet Order of the Red Banner #347211
Less seen ‘Valik’ variation (with a bump above the mint mark)
Manufactured in 1950-1951 at the Moscow Mint (MMD). Less than 13000 pieces of this desirable variation were produced.
Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 37.36 mm in width and 45.43 mm in height and weighs 23.8 gram without its suspension. Its serial number and mint mark are located at the 6 o’clock position of its reverse.
This original order of the Red Banner is in excellent, above average condition. The details are crisp and the enamel problem free apart from some minor contact marks, barely noticeable with the naked eye. The connection ring has not been cut and the award comes with an old double layer steel suspension and old ribbon.
The Order of the Red Banner recognized military deeds. Before the establishment of the Order of Lenin, the order functioned as the highest (and practically the only) military order of the USSR. Practically all well-known Soviet commanders became Cavaliers of the Order. Also awarded to NKVD personnel.
