Researched Soviet Order of the Red Banner #266504
Awarded to pilot captain (later Lt. Col) Ivan Ivanovich Tezyaev (Иван Иванович Тезяев)
For 45 successful combat missions, 7 successful ground attacks and destroying an enemy aircraft
Tezyaev fought in the Battles of Stalingrad, Kursk and Berlin and shot down a US plane in 1950 (see his short biography)
Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 45.21 mm in height, 36.69 mm in width and it weighs 24.1 grams without its suspension. The serial number and curved mint mark are located at the 6 o’clock position of its reverse.
This Order of the Red Banner is in a nice but worn condition. The details are crisp and the red enamels are mostly present apart from two rays of the center star and some chipping on the bottom of the large banner. The white enamel is all present and flawless and its connection ring has not been cut. The order comes with its time period double layer steel suspension.
Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or achievements:
“As a fighter pilot, he takes direct part in the fronts of the Patriotic War from the Bobruisk-Zhlobin operation. In the battles with the Nazi invaders showed courage and bravery. During the period of combat work, he made 45 combat sorties, of which he conducted 7 successful attack troops of the enemy troops in which he destroyed 3 vehicles to 20 soldiers and officers and put out fire of one small-caliber anti-aircraft artillery.
In the same sorties spent 3 air battles and shot down one enemy aircraft. In aerial combat, he comes to the rescue of his friend without regards for his life.
Discipline in the crew and his personal discipline are good. He has excellent piloting skills and is an example for other comrades.
There were no violations against directive 1 of the military council of the Baltic Fleet and decree 008.
For 45 successful combat missions carried out, for 7 successful ground attack flights, for one shot down enemy aircraft and an excellent discipline, he is worthy of the governmental award of the order of the “RED BANNER”.”
After the 2nd World War Tezyaev shot down a US PB4Y-2 Privateer with his LA-11 in 1950 which lead to a diplomatic storm.
