Awarded to Pacific Fleet Captain Ivan Ivanovich Khokholin (Иван Иванович Хохолин)
For serving with dedication in the Navy, showing excellent performance from the war’s outset, achieving notable results in mobilizing naval personnel for their missions. Under his leadership, all combat tasks were successfully and timely completed. He also served on several submarines.
Less seen ‘Mercedes’ (the position of the spikes on its reverse) variation with its mint mark in two lines
Made of solid gold, silver and enamels. Measures 46.03 mm in height, 44.13 mm in width and weighs 32.7 grams without its screwplate. The serial number is located at the 6 o’clock position and the mint mark Monetni Dvor in two lines is located at the 12 o’clock position of its reverse. The minimum known serial number for this variation is 242489 and the maximum is 276539. The actual number produced of this variation is much less considering the majority of orders in this range has the spikes in their ‘regular’ position.
In excellent condition with crisp details and sharp edges. The red and white enamels are generally well preserved without repairs but show a small superficial chip on the left side of the 12 o’clock ray of the red star and another smaller one next to the top edge of the 3 o’clock ray. Its time period screwpate fits well and its screw has not been shortened.

Captain KHOKHOLIN I.I. served honestly and devotedly during whole his service period in the Navy of our Motherland. From the very first days of the war, he achieved excellent results in his exceptionally extensive work, which mobilised the personnel of the naval area security for good performance in performing the assigned missions. Thanks to his extensive, excellent work, all the combat missions were executed by the personnel well and in time.

Working as the secretary of the Communist party commission at the political department of the submarine training squad, Pacific Fleet, comrade KHOKHOLIN performs well his duties in the training squad. He cares about the needs of his troops. He assists the local Communist party and Komsomol organisations in the subordinate units. He mobilises the troops to concentrate on executing the mission assigned to the training squad. He is a good teacher and educates the personnel in the spirit of the Lenin-Stalin party and the Socialist Motherland. He personally is a disciplined and a demanding officer. He keeps studying and improving his military knowledge. CONCLUSION : He deserves to be bestowed with medal “FOR COMBAT MERITS”.
