Awarded to Lieutenant Vladimir Ivanovich Chistikin (Владимир Иванович Чистикин)

 

For eliminating up to 15 German troops and suppressed 3 enemy machine-guns near Warsaw. When one of the mortar layers was wounded and taken out of action, Lt. Chistikin replaced him and continued firing at the enemy

 

 

Made of solid gold, silver and enamels. Measures 45.30 mm in height, 43.21 mm in width and weighs 29.5 grams without its screwplate. The serial number is located at the 6 o’clock position and the mint mark Monetni Dvor is located at the 12 o’clock position of its reverse.

 

In worn condition with its details still crisp and the higher laying parts like the edges of the hammer and sickle well defined. The white and red enamels on the center circle and on the 12 and 3 o’clock ray of the red star are problem free without repairs. The 5, 7 and 9 o’clock rays of the red star show substantial enamel loss. Its well fitted silver screwpate is time period to the order and the screw has not been shortened.

 

Brief description of his feat of arms or achievements:

“On 16 January 1945, platoon commander of the 2nd mortar company Lieutenant CHISTIKIN exhibited personal courage, initiative, and commander’s wit in the operation for force crossing of the Vistula river near the settlement Janówek, Warsaw voivodeship.

The platoon under Lt. CHISTIKIN’s command skilfully selected the firing positions and provided fire support to the advancing rifle troops and eliminated up to 15 German troops, suppressed 3 enemy machine-guns. When one of the mortar layers was wounded and taken out of action, Lt. CHISTIKIN replaced him and continued firing at the enemy. Acting boldly and decisively, the mortar platoon supported the troops crossing the river and was part of their success. For exhibited courage, bravery, and skilful command, Lt. CHISTIKIN deserves state award order “PATRIOTIC WAR II CLASS”.”
