Description
Order of Lenin #14609
Rare ‘Swallowtail’ / ‘dovetail’ variation
Awarded to Nigmatbay Abdulnagimovich Zaripov (Нигматбай Абдулнагимович Зарипов)
For achievements in the development in agriculture, industries, cooperative enterprises, culture, science and arts
Made out of solid gold, platinum and enamels. Measures 43.27 mm in height including its eyelet, 38.72 mm in width and it weighs 34.0 grams without its suspension. The serial number and the mint mark are located on its reverse.
The order is in great condition despite some superficial enamel chips and cracks. They do not distract much from the overall appearance of the order and are far less than average for screwback Lenin Orders in general and conversion pieces in particular. All details on its obverse are crisp and even the higher parts of the order show light wear only. It reverse shows several scratches and dents but these are not the result of wear but the result of adding the ‘swallow tail’ eyelet and removing the screwpost by the mint. Its connection ring has not been cut and the steel suspension is time period to the award.
Because of the new June 1943 regulations, Orders of Lenin (and other orders) were produced on a five-sided suspension and no longer as screwbacks. Some of the already produced screwback orders were therefor officially converted by the Mint to a suspension type. These are sometimes referred to as ‘Swallowtail’ or ‘Dovetail’ variations due to the added eyelet and its shape. Only a handful of these are known to exist and thus are very rare.
