Awarded to Guards Private Fedor Ivanovich Dovzhenko (Федор Иванович Довженко)
For repairing bridges and making passages through barbed-wire fences all while being subjected to enemy artillery and machine-gun fire
Made of silver and enamels. Measures 47.04 mm in width, 48.72 mm in height including its eyelet and it weighs 25.8 gram without its suspension.
This early order is in a nice, above average condition. The enamel is all present and shows some superficial flaking only. The higher laying parts like the clock in the towner and the wreath surrounding it show medium wear but many details are still visible. Its connection ring has been cut and the brass suspension is time period to the order.
Private Dovzhenko was also awarded an Order of Glory 2nd class
Short translation of the research:
Comrade DOVZHENKO proved himself as a courageous and brave fighter during the strong enemy defence breakthrough near the village Gorokhovishchi, Polesie region.
Having received the order to clear the passages in the enemy barbed-wire obstacles, comrade DOVZHENKO traversed the difficult mashy terrain and reached the enemy barbed-wire fence while being subjected to enemy artillery and machine-gun fire. He made 2 passages, which assisted the achievement of the combat objective.
In the following advance of the regiment, he was following in the forward infantry formation and together with his section repaired a number of bridges (total length of 250m), all the time under enemy fire.
For the cleared passages in the enemy obstacles and for the repaired bridges, he deserves state award medal “GLORY III CLASS”.
