Awarded to Sergeant Nikolay Vasilievich Sorokin (Николай Васильевич Сорокин)

 

For bravely crossed the river Ihna near Reetz under enemy fire on March 1st 1945, taking a firing position to cover his platoon. He consistently led in the frontline, inspiring his comrades. In another engagement, he defended against enemy counter-attacks, eliminating 6 soldiers and 1 officer

 

 

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 46.00 mm in width, 48.49 mm in height and weighs 23.4 grams without its suspension. The serial number is located on top of its reverse.

 

In nice condition with medium overall wear. Some of the details of the raised areas show strong wear but a fair amount of details are still visible. Its enamels on the small red star and the lower banner are mostly present without repairs and show some minor flaking only. Its connection ring has not been cut and its double layer suspension is time period to the medal.

 

Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merits:

Comrade SOROKIN exhibited courage and braver in the fight against the German invaders.

In the combat engagement during forced crossing of the river Ihna near the town Reetz on 01 March 1945, despite the enemy artillery and machine-gun fire and lack of prepared crossing, he quickly crossed the river and manned a firing positions covering the rest of his platoon traversing the river.

Comrade SOROKIN always was a part of the combat formation of the squadron and advanced in the first line inspiring his mates by personal example. In he combat engagement for the main road north-west of town Reetz, the enemy attempted to halt our advance and twice intensively counter-attacked the squadron.

Comrade SOROKIN bravely defended against these attacks and eliminated 6 enemy soldiers and 1 officer.
