Awarded to Senior Sergeant in the 10th Guards Parachute Rifle Regiment Nikolai Kirillovich Svistun (Николай Кириллович Свистун)
For personally killing 2 Hitlerites and destroying one machine gun position after replacing a wounded soldier
Made of silver and enamels. Measures 47.15 mm in width, 49.19 mm in height and weighs 23.6 grams without its suspension. The serial number is located on top of its reverse.
In excellent condition with most details visible and an appealing layer of even dark patina. Its enamels on the small red star and the lower banner are well preserved without repairs and show some minor flaking and small scratches only. Its connection ring has not been cut and its double layer steel suspension and ribbon are time period to the medal.
Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merits:
In the battles with German-fascist invaders Comrade Svistun N.K. proved to be persistent and courageous. On April 6th, 1945, in the vicinity of the village of Fering (or Vering?), while dealing with the heavy enemy counter attack, Comrade Svitsen’s squad destroyed four squad automatic weapons. Comrade Svistsun personally replaced a wounded soldier and destroyed one machine gun and killed two Hitlerites, contributing to rebuffing of the enemy counter attack.
Deserves the governmental award – the Order of Glory, 3rd degree, for displayed combat persistence and courage
