Order of Glory 3rd Class #283485 Duplicate with Order Booklet

Awarded to Guards Jr. Sergeant Vasiliy Gavrilovich Mazurov (Василий Гаврилович Мазуров)

For being the the first to break into the enemy trench, captured an enemy machine gun, and opened destructive fire from it on the enemy on 30 August 1944, in the area of the village of Ojdula [Romania]. In this battle he killed 8 enemy soldiers

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 46.10 mm in width, 48.21 mm in height and weighs 22.7 grams without its suspension. The stamped serial number is on the reverse side, positioned beneath the Cyrillic ‘D,’ in a small font style typically associated with duplicate awards.

In superb condition with few traces of wear and crisp details on even the raised areas. Both sides shows few dings and contact marks and an appealing patina to the silver. The enamels are very well preserved and without repairs or flaking. Its connection ring has not been cut and its double layer suspension is time period to the order.

The order is accompanied by its document and has all pages present and securely attached to the cover. The document is a duplicate too, as indicated by the “ДУБЛИКАТ” stamp on the second page above the name, and was reissued on 21 November 1974.

Duplicate awards were issued by the Soviet government as replacements – either for earlier types of the same order or medal, or when awards were lost or not given under exceptional circumstances. Such pieces are especially rare.

Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merits:

On August 30, 1944, in the area of the village of Ojdula [Romania], during the offensive actions of our group of infantrymen, he was the first to break into the enemy trench and captured an enemy light machine gun, opened deadly fire from it, destroyed 8 enemy soldiers.

Worthy of being awarded the Order of Glory, 3rd Class.
