Order of Glory 3rd Class #24696

Иван Наумович Григорьев

Awarded to Private Ivan Naumovich Grigoriev (Иван Наумович Григорьев)

For killing 12 Hitlerites soldiersduring a forest reconnacence mission in December 1943 and for bravely taken part in deflecting the enemy’s counterattacks that same month where he destroyed an additional 6 German soldiers with machine gun fire

Ground-dug find

Made of solid silver. Measures 46.58 mm in width; 48.81 mm in height and weighs 21.5 gram. The serial number is located on top of its reverse.

This early order is in worn and damaged condition, and severely bent. Possibly during combat. Despite this, most details remain visible. All enamel is lost, which is not surprising given that it was a ground-dug find. It was discovered without a suspension, but we added a period-appropriate double-layer steel suspension with a ribbon.

Short, specific statement of the personal battle feat or achievement

In the battles on December 23-27, 1943 in the areas around the villages of Khotemlia and Koopty in the Mozninsky District of Vitebsk Region, he presented a model of bravery and courage. As a member of the group for forest recon and (ill.), comrade Grigoriev destroyed 12 Hitlerist soldiers. On December 26, 1943, he bravely took part in deflecting the enemy’s counterattacks near the village of Koopty, and destroyed 6 German soldiers with a machine gun fire attack. He led the soldiers by his personal example, thus ensuring that the enemy counterattack was deflected.

Conclusion: He merits the award of Order “Glory 3rd degree”.

Commander of the 618th Rifle Regiment,
Lt. Colonel (sig. ill.) Muslanov December 1943

Apparently Private Grigoriev lost his award during the war. The pictures we found online show him wearing his awards without the Order of Glory while the Order of Glory was his first award
