Order of Glory 2nd class #2166

Александр Алексеевич Шулепов

Awarded to Guards Sergeant Aleksandr Alekseevich Shulepov (Александр Алексеевич Шулепов)

For voluntarily participating in a scouting reconnaissance operation on the night of 06 June 1944 in Moldavia where he rushed into the German trenches killing 15 (!) Germans and taking back one prisoner

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 45.92 mm in width, 48.27 mm in height including its eyelet and weighs 23.3 grams without its suspension.

This original order is in worn condition with several dings and scratches and much gold plating worn off. The red enamels are mostly present and original but show substantial chipping on the red banner surrounding the lettering ‘SLAVA’. The red enamel filling the star on top of the Spassky Tower is well preserved. The higher laying parts of its obverse show strong wear but some of the details are still visible. Its connection ring has been cut and the order comes with its time period suspension. The eyelet on top of the order is damaged but there is not risk of the connection ring falling off.

The order truly reflects the harsh combat conditions Sgt. Shulepov had to put up with!

Scarce low numbered award with superb research and a real combat look

Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merits:

Comrade SHULEPOV volunteered to participate in a scouting reconnaissance operation on the night of 06 June 1944 near the village Leuntea, Moldavian Soviet Socialist republic. Being part of the covering squad on the right flank, after the attack commenced, comrade SHULEPOV swiftly advanced and rushed into the German trenches. His submachine-gun fire met the German soldiers, who were running away from our surprise attack on the left flank.

Acting calmly and decisively, comrade SHULEPOV eliminated 15 German troops in this engagement. Then he assisted in capturing an enemy prisoner.

When our prisoner capture group was withdrawing, he provided covering fire and ensured their return happened without casualties.

He was the last to leave the battlefield in this engagement. He deserves order “GLORY II CLASS”.
