Soviet Order of Glory 2nd class #11001, ‘Slim Variation’

Order of Glory 2nd class awarded to Guards sergeant Ivan Stefanovich Litvinov (Иван Стефанович Литвинов)

For repelling two enemy counterattacks, eliminating up to 20 Hitler’s soldiers and suppressed 2 enemy firing positions

Order of Glory 2nd class; Made of silver and enamels. Measures 46.81 mm in width; 48.89 mm in height and weighs 20.3 gram without its suspension. The serial number is located on top of its reverse.

This original order is in excellent, well above average condition with most details present. Much gold plating is still visible although a substantial part is covered under a dark and appealing layer of patina. The enamels are absolutely stunning and all present which is seldomly seen with these early Orders of Glory. The reverse shows few contact marks only and is also covered with a nice even dark patina. The order comes with its time period double layer steel suspension and old most likely original old ribbon.

Scarce award in excellent condition with interesting research. Scarce as such!

We uploaded two pictures of the award together with a ‘thick’ Order of Glory in the picture gallery for comparison,

Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or achievements:

“In the intensive battle near the settlement Pillkallen on 13 January 1945, when the enemy mounted ferocious defence, Guards sergeant LITVINOV served as a gun commander and his crew destroyed one light machine-gun and one enemy observation post.

On 14 January 1945, the enemy attempted a counterattack. With well placed fire, LITVINOV dispersed counter attacking enemy infantry group. He repelled two enemy counterattacks and eliminated up to 20 Hitler’s soldiers, suppressed 2 enemy firing positions.

He deserves a state award – “order Glory II class”. ”
