Awarded to Guards Senior Lieutenant Vasily Nikolayevich Popov (Василий Николаевич Попов)
“For killing 40 German soldiers and destroying three heavy machine guns”
Made of solid silver. It measures 45.33 mm in height and 44.75 mm in width. It weighs 33.61 gram. The serial number and the mint mark Monetni Dvor are located at the 6 o’clock position on the reverse. This early variation is made out of two parts; the center piece, portraying Bogdan Khmelnitsky, and the base. It is less seen than the later variation made out on one piece. The minimum know serial number is 35 and the maximum is 3223.
This original order is in nice condition with lots of character. Some of the higher parts on the obverse show wear. The details on the ring surrounding Bogdan however are perfectly visible. The serial number and mint mark are also crisp. There have been no repairs and the screwpost is full length. It comes with its time period silver screwplate.

“On October 12, 1944, during the fighting to seize the town of Nieporęt [Poland], he fought at the head of his units, inspiring his troops to follow him. Lieutenant Popov was the first to rush into the southern outskirts of the town of Nieporęt and cut off the railroad line, in the process he killed as many as 40 German soldiers and destroying three heavy machine guns, which were impeding the advance of our infantry.
Conclusion: He deserves the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky, 3rd Class.”
