Medal of Nakhimov #9439 with booklet

Тушинский Иосиф Васильевич

Awarded to Pacific Fleet Seaman Iosif Vasilyevich Tushinsky (Тушинский Иосиф Васильевич)

For fighting the Japanese invaders by risking his life fencing in the fleet’s main base with floating booms ensuring the base was firmly protected

Made of gold plated brass. It measures 36.22 mm in width, 44.49 mm in height and weighs 20.2 grams without its suspension. Featuring admiral Nakhimov surrounded by 110 ‘pearls’. The serial number, “9439”, is stamped in a small font on the side of the medal. The minimum known serial number for this variation is 6005 and the maximum is 16952.

In excellent, well above average condition. There few dings and scratches on either side and the higher laying parts show light wear only with most details perfectly visible. A fair amount of the original gold plating is still present had there have been no repairs. The medal comes with its time period suspension device.

Its accompanying booklet is in pristine condition with all pages firmly attached to its cover and it mentions this Medal of Nakhimov alone

Also included are two jubilee medals (20 and 30 years victory Great Patriotic War) with their documents. Both medals are in excellent condition.

Since this was Tushinsky’s only numbered award, it can be considered a complete documented group

Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or accomplishments:

He carried out the task of fencing in the fleet’s main base with floating booms in an exemplary fashion, thus ensuring the base was firmly protected against penetrations by light enemy forces. In stormy weather conditions he performed repairs on the boom belt. Both by day and at night he stood watch along the boom belt, despite storms and rain. Risking his life he assisted in quickly closing the gates. Regardless of the time of day he assembles booms.

He deserves the Medal of Nakhimov
