Medal for the Defense of the Polar Region variation 1 (WW2)

Sub-variation without a knob on top of the handle of the sickle 

Medal for the Defense of the Polar Region: made of gilded brass. Measures 32.04 mm in width, 36.94 mm in height, including the eyelet and it weighs 17.3 gram. 

This medal is in nice condition with all details visible and a fair amount of the gold plating still present. There are several dings and scratches and the higher laying parts show medium wear. The brass suspension is time period to the medal.

The Medal “For the Defense of the Soviet Transarctic” was awarded to all participants in the defense of the Soviet Arctic region – soldiers of the Red Army, Navy and troops of the NKVD, as well as persons from the civilian population who took part in the defense of the North.
