Medal for the Defense of Stalingrad variation 1

Awarded to NKVD Captain Alexander Semenovich Shashurin (Александр Семенович Шашурин, НКВД)

Made of gilded brass. Measures 32.17 mm in width, 37.16 mm in height, including the eyelet and it weighs 16.2 gram without its suspension.

This medal is in excellent condition with its details crisp on both sides and light overall wear. Most gold plating has worn off and the medal shows relatively few dings and scratches. Its (cut) connection ring, suspension and ribbon are authentic and time period to the medal.

Its scarce document is dated 23 June 1943 and is numbered 12287.  Unlike the ‘standard’ documents, these were issued by representatives of the local authorities of the city of Stalingrad. The bottom of the document shows the signatures of the Chairman and the of the Executive Committee of the Stalingrad.
