Soviet Medal for the Defense of Odessa with document
Variation 2 ‘Voenkomat’
Awarded to Andrey Fedorovich Zaremba (Андрей Федорович Заремба)
Made of gilded brass. It measures 32.13 mm in width, 37.11 mm in height including the eyelet and weighs 15.8 gram without its suspension.
In excellent condition with perfect details and most gold plating still present. Even the higher laying parts of the medal on both sides show little wear. It comes with its time period suspension and its connection ring has not been cut.
It comes with its original and problem free award document dated 3 July 1974 and is numbered H 002230
This medal is one of the post-war issues that were awarded by a Voenkomat (Military Commissariat) at the veteran’s place of residence. The reasons for the late issue could vary but in most instances, the Voenkomat medals were “catch-up” awards to those who had taken part in the battle and then somehow overlooked by the awarding authorities during WW2 and in the immediate post-war years.
Scarce by itself and even harder to find with its document!
