Soviet Medal for the Defense of Moscow
Variation 2 (Voenkomat)
Made of gold plated brass. Measures 32.13 mm in width, 37.07 mm in height including its eyelet and weighs 15.6 gram without its suspension.
This medal is in near mint condition with virtually no wear on either side and all gold plating still present. The aluminium suspension is time period to the medal.
These post-war issues were awarded by a Voenkomat (Military Commissariat) at the veteran’s place of residence. The reasons for the late issue could vary but in most instances; the Voenkomat medals were “catch-up” awards to those who had taken part in the battle and then somehow overlooked by the awarding authorities during WW2 and in the immediate post-war years.
