Soviet Medal for the Defense of Moscow variation 1
Made of gold plated brass. Measures 32.41 mm in diameter, 37.68 mm in height including its eyelet and weighs 16.9 gram without its suspension.
This medal is in excellent condition with most details visible. Both sides show several dings and scratches but much of the original gold plating is still present. The double layer steel suspension and ribbon are original to the medal and its connection ring has not been cut.
The Medal “For the Defense of Moscow” was established on May 1, 1944 by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Its statute was later amended by Resolution of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet on March 8, 1945. The medal’s statute was finally amended one last time on July 18, 1980 by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR № 2523-X
