Medal for the Defense of Leningrad

Variation 1b with a ‘long horizon’

Made of gilded brass. Measures 32.11 mm in width, 37.89 mm in height including the eyelet and it weighs 16.9 gram without its suspension.

This medal is in nice condition with most details still present. There are several dings and scratches on both sides and most gold plating has worn off. Still a nice piece with a real ‘combat’ look.

Awarded to all Soviet military and civilians who participated in the defense of Leningrad between September 1941 and January 1944. The Medal was a World War II campaign medal established on December 22, 1942. It recognized the valor and hard work of the Soviet civilian and military defenders of Leningrad during the 872-day siege of the city by the German armed forces.
