Soviet Medal for the 20th Anniversary of the RKKA. 1938
This XX year RKKA medal is made of solid silver and enamels. It measures 32.36 mm in diameter, 2.95 mm in thickness at the very edge of the medal and 35.87 mm in height (including the eyelet). It weighs 23.5 gram without its suspension.
This original 20th Anniversary of the RKKA medal is in excellent, well above average condition with all details crisp. Even the higher laying parts on its reverse show little wear. The soldier’s eyes, fingers and rifle for example, are all visible. The enamel is stunning and shows some minor contact marks only, barely visible with the naked eye. Its double layer steel suspension is time period to the medal.
A superb piece. Probably the best we have ever handled. Rare as such!
The Jubilee Medal “XX Years of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army” was awarded to staff and commanding officers of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army and Navy who had, as of February 23, 1938 (the Day of the Red Army), served for 20 years in its ranks, and to those honoured during the Civil War and the war for freedom and independence of the motherland in units of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army and Navy; to those awarded the Order of the Red Banner for distinguished service during the Civil War..
