Medal for Combat Merit #240383

Awarded to jr. Sgt. Nikolay Sergeevich Gavrilov (Николай Сергеевич Гаврилов)

For leading fire from a mortar, with precise targeting on enemy firing points and live forces, destroyed a mortar battery with its crew, three carts with ammunition, and part of the enemy during the battle for Velikiye Luki (Russia) on January 17, 1943

Made of solid silver. The medal itself measures 32.23 mm in diameter and 36.51 mm in height including the eyelet. It weighs 21.0 grams without its suspension and 29.5 grams with the suspension but without the nut. Its eyelet is 5.64 mm in width and the suspension measures 25.19 mm in width at its narrowest point and 31.45 at its widest point.

In worn but decent condition with several small dings and scratches. The raised areas like the sword and saber show light to medium wear with a fair amount of detail still visible. The red lacquer is worn off and both sides show a medium patina. Its silver suspension is original as is the brass screw, the hexagon nut and the plate holding the ribbon. Its screwplate is original as well and fits the screw perfectly fine. Its silver connection ring is cut. A small crack is visible where the eyelet is attached to the medal which is possiblly the result of a sloppy soldering job. In any event, the eyelet is still firmly attached to the medal and there is no risk of it falling off.
