Soviet Medal for Combat Merit #167456
Awarded to the Jewish Sr. Lieutenant Roman Abovich Khariton (Роман Абович Харитон)
Awarded for leading his company into an assault, raising them with the war cries “Hurra!” and “For Stalin!”. His company captured up to 50 enemy troops and he personally destroyed an enemy dugout with 5 Hungarian troops
Made of solid silver and lacquer. The medal itself measures 32.18 mm in diameter and 37.01 mm in height including the eyelet. It weighs 21.3 gram without its suspension and 29.8 gram with the suspension but without the nut. The eyelet is 5.59 mm in width and the suspension measures 25.16 mm in width at its narrowest point and 31.55 at its widest point.
The medal is in great, above average condition with several small dings and scratches but most details crisp. The lacquer filling the letters ‘CCCP’ is all present and original although discoloured over time. The silver suspension is original as is the silver screw, hexagon nut, the brass screwplate containing the text ‘Monetnij Dvor’ and the plate holding the ribbon. Its connection ring has not been cut.

“Comrade KHARITON proved himself as a brave and devoted officer during the combat operations against the German invaders for the settlements Pereyezzheye, Ekaterinovka, Saguny on the Voronezh front. During the enemy defence breakthrough near the khutor Pereyezzheye, comrade KHARITON led his company into an assault, raising them with the war cries “Hurra!” and “For Stalin!”. His company eliminated several firing positions and captured up to 50 enemy troops. His personal conduct inspires his company personnel for feats. In the village Ekaterinovka, he destroyed with his hand grenades an enemy dugout with 5 Hungarian troops. He deserves state award – order “RED STAR”.”
