Awarded to Sergeant tank technician Nikolay Petrovich Tarasov (Николай Петрович Тарасов)
For repairs on the “Goncharenko” T-34 tank, which was blown up by a mine. Under bombardment of gun- and mortar fire, he replaced two rollers with balancers, a driving wheel, a track and unjammed the turret. In week that followed he repaired several other tanks
Made of solid silver. Measures 32.22 mm in diameter and 2.89 mm in thickness. The height of the medal is 36.41 mm including the eyelet and it weighs 22.6 grams without its suspension. This piece was originally awarded on a rectangular suspension which was replaced by a pentagon shaped one according to new 1943 regulations on wearing Soviet awards.
In nice overall condition with medium wear to the higher laying parts but with a fair amount of details still visible. There are several small dings and scratches and the red lacquer is worn off. Its connection ring has been cut and the medal comes with an early double layer steel suspension and old ribbon.
Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or accomplishments:
On 11/27/1942 in the area of village Palatkino with three persons of the brigade, comrade TARASOV did the repair of the “Goncharenko” T-34 tank, which was blown up by a mine. Outside the immediate vicinity of the enemy under the bombardment of gun- and mortar fire, he replaced two rollers with balancers, a driving wheel, a track, unjammed the turret in five hours, instead of the estimated 9 hours.
From 11/26/1942 till 12/04/1942, comrade Tarasov performed repairs ahead of schedule: 5 machines T-34 repaired with average repair, current repairs on 7 machines. T-60 – 1 machine. For the shown courage and selfless work, he deserves the government award of the order “RED STAR”.
