Soviet Medal for Bravery #92176

Awarded to T-34 gunner Ivan Nikitovich Kusmartsev (Иван Никитович Кусмарцев)

 

For destroying eight anti-tank guns, ten mortars, four heavy machine guns and 100 enemy soldiers and officers

 

Made of solid silver. Measures 37.41 mm in diameter and 3.16 mm in thickness. The height of the medal is 42.15 mm including its eyelet and it weighs 30.8 gram without its suspension. The suspension measures 25.28 mm in width at its narrowest point and 31.65 at its widest point. 

The medal is in nice condition with medium overall wear. The details of the higher laying parts like the rivets on the side of the tank and the canons are all visible but the red lacquer filling the lettering is all gone. All parts of the silver suspension are original and belong to the medal and its connection ring has not been cut.

Brief description of his achievements:

Gunner of a T-34 tank in company of medium tanks, guards Sergeant Kusmartsev, Ivan Nikitovich. Awarded for actions in the battle of December 22, 1942, when he attacked the farm “Panamarev”. As part of the crew he destroyed eight anti-tank guns, ten mortars, four heavy machine guns and 100 enemy soldiers and officers.
