Awarded to Technician Lieutenant Dmitry Grigorievich Sazonov (Дмитрий Григорьевич Сазонов)
For repairing 62 aircraft while being subject to heavy bombardment and shelling by enemy aircraft
Made of solid silver. Measures 37.08 mm in diameter, 2.95 mm in thickness and 41.46 mm in height including its eyelet. The eyelet itself is 5.12 mm wide and the medal weighs 30.0 gram without its suspension.Â
In a fair, combat condition with medium overall wear. Some of the details of the higher laying parts like the rivets on the side of the tank and the canons have worn off but most are still visible. The lacquer filling the lettering is gone which is seen often with these early wartime medals. Its small silver connection ring is original but has been cut.
This medal was originally on a rectangular suspension and was replaced with a new one to comply with the new 1943 regulations of wearing Soviet awards.

“Sazonov Dmitry Grigorievich is devoted to the party of Lenin-Stalin and the Socialist Motherland. He arrived on April 10, 1942 at the 285th PARM-3 for the position of aviation technician of the aircraft group. He quickly mastered the repair of the aircraft: Yak-1, LAGG-3, IL-2, I-16, U-2. Disciplined, demanding of himself and subordinate aviation technicians. He well organized the work in the team being loyal to him, which every day – overfulfills the day’s plans by 200-250%. In July and August ONLY, the brigade under the leadership of Sazonov repaired 62 aircraft, fulfilling the plan for aircraft repair for August by 500%. Sazonov is resourceful and courageous in a difficult environment. So, for example: on July 1-2 in the city of Zemlyanok, despite heavy bombardment and shelling of the airfield by enemy aircraft, the brigade under the leadership of Sazonov restored two IL-2 aircraft: the current one and one minor repairs under the fire of enemy aircraft. On 07/07/1942, during the bombing of the airfield by enemy aircraft in the city of Usman, Sazonov’s brigade restored one aircraft, not stopping work until the aircraft being repaired went on a combat mission.
