Soviet Medal for Bravery #317166

 

Демченко Степан Владимирович

 

Awarded to Guards Jr. Lieutenant Stepan Vladimirovich Demchenko (Степан Владимирович Демченко), participant of the Kiev and Stalingrad defence operations

 

 For his precise and timely work during the days of the ferocious enemy attacks on 05.07.1943 on the Orel-Kursk sector 

 

 

Made of solid silver and lacquer. Measures 37.32 mm in diameter and 2.50 mm in thickness. The height of the medal is 42.88 mm (including the eyelet) and it weighs 26.1 gram without and 34.7 mm with suspension (but without nut). The suspension measures 25.35 mm in width at its narrowest point and 31.49 at its widest point. 

 

The medal is in excellent, above average condition with relatively light wear and uncut connection ring. The details of the higher laying parts like the rivets on the side of the tank and the canons are all crisp and over half of the lacquer filling the letters is still present although covered with a later of dirt. All parts of the silver suspension are original including the brass screw, hexagon nut, the screwplate containing the text ‘Monetnij Dvor’ and the plate holding the ribbon.

Severely wounded 14.08.1941 near Kiev city on South-Western front.
In RKKA since 1938.
Awards: medal “For Stalingrad Defence”

Comrade DEMCHENKO is a participant of the Kiev and Stalingrad defence operations. He has been serving as the brigade headquarters clerk from the day of its formation. His honest and reliable attitude ensures the headquarters paperwork is done properly. Approaching his work with loving care, he ensures all the documentation is produced correctly and in a timely fashion, regardless of the combat complications.
During the days of the ferocious enemy attacks on 05.07.1943 on the Orel-Kursk sector, despite strong enemy fire, comrade DEMCHENKO continued his precise and timely work and provided also direct practical assistance to the regimental headquarters.
For honest and reliable attitude towards the combat work, for excellent execution of the assigned missions, comrade DEMCHENKO deserves state award – medal “For Bravery”.
