Description
Soviet Honored Road Builder Badge #2357 (NKVD)
This badge is made of silver plated brass, gilt and enamels. It measures 44.42 mm in height, 31.99 mm in width and weighs 20.3 gram without its screwplate. Its serial number can be found on the top of its reverse.
In excellent condition with crisp details and light overall wear. Almost all of the gold and silver plating is still present and the enamels are extremely well preserved without damage or chipping. Its screw has not been shortened and the badge comes with a well fitted and time period screwplate although possibly not correct for this badge.

Untill STalin’s death all major road building in the USSR was under direct control of NKVD (MVD) which supplied slave labor for the construction projects. The NKVD and its Gushosdor Agency awarded the Pochyotnyi Dorozhnik (i.e. “Honored Road Builder”) badges to best engineers, managers and even some of the “rehabilitated” prisoners.
