Description
Hero of Socialist Labor Gold Star #2609
Awarded to Abu Syzdykov (Абу Сыздыков), senior shepherd of the Chkalov collective farm in Kazakhstan
By Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of 23 July 1948 for preserving the flock despite the difficult winter conditions of 1947-1948
Made of solid 23 carat gold. It measures 32.88 mm in height including the eyelet, 31.36 mm in width and weighs 17.0 grams without its suspension. The text Герой Социалистического Труда (Hero of Socialist Labor) is located at the center of the reverse. The suspension is authentic to the star and measures 26.19 mm in width at his widest point and 20.99 mm in height at its narrowest point. The minimum know serial number of this variation is 1099 and the maximum is 9978.
The star is in nice condition with medium wear and most raised details like the edges of the lettering perfectly visible. There are several dings and scratches on both sides but none distract from the overall appeal of the star. The suspension is original and includes the rectangular plate and hexagon screwplate. The connection ring between the suspension and the medal has not been cut and its screw has not been shortened. The mint-marked screw plate fits well and shows similarities the ones used for these stars in this number range but is believed to be wrong.

Worth mentioning is that somebody else (possibly his son?) with the exact same name was also awarded the Title Hero of Socialist Labor in 1957. Information on this person can be read here
