Complete Soviet group of an Order of the Patriotic War, two Red Stars and Medals

 

 

Awarded to Guards Lieutenant and KV-1 Tank Driver Dmitrij Ivanovich Samoshin (Дмитрий Иванович Самошин)

 

For participating in 7 armoured attacks at Stalingrad, personally crushing 5 pillboxes with his tank tracks and driving his tank into cover while being severely wounded

 

A wonderful and complete group in great condition for the Battle of Stalingrad (i.a.). Scarce and desiarable!

 

 

The group consists of the following items:

 

Order of the Patriotic War 2nd class #698444

Made of solid gold, silver and enamels. Measures 46.04 mm in height, 44.46 mm in width and weighs 26.2 gram.

In excellent condition with crisp details and light overall wear. Both the red and white enamels are stunning and without dings, scratches or repairs. Both sides show an appealing dark patina and the screw of the order has not been shortened, The order comes with its time period and well fitted silver screwplate.

 

Order of the Red Star #109253

Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 48.11 mm in width, 46.59 in height and weighs 29.3 gram.

The order is in excellent condition as well and shows light to medium wear on its higher laying parts on its centre medallion. The enamels are beautiful and show some minor contact marks only. There have been not repairs and the screw of the star has not been shortened. It comes with its time period and well fitted silver screwplate and shows a nice even toning to the silver on both sides.

 

Order of the Red Star #3474144

Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 48.39 mm in width, 46.64 in height and weighs 30.9 gram.

In near mint condition with pristine enamels and crisp details. Even the facial features of the soldier are perfectly visible. The screw of the star has not been shortened and the order comes with its time period screwplate.

 

Medal for Combat Merit

Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 37.15 mm in height including its eyelet, 32.21 mm in width and weighs 19.3 gram without its suspension

The medal is in excellent condition with all details crisp and light overall wear. The order shows relatively few dings and scrachtes on both sides. The enamel filling the letters CCCP is all present and its connection ring has not been cut.

 

Medal for the Victory over Germany

Made of gold plated brass. Measures 37.80 mm in height including its eyelet, 32.22 mm in width and weighs 17.6 gram without its suspension

In excellent condition with light overall wear and much gold plating still present.

 

Jubilee Medal for 30 Years RKKA

Made of gold plated brass. Measures 37.22 mm in height including its eyelet, 32.19 mm in width and weighs 15.6 gram without its suspension

In excellent condition with light overall wear and most  gold plating still present.

 

 

Research of the Order of the Order of the Patriotic War 2nd class:

“In the battles for the village Tikhotsky during 17-22 July 1943, he exhibited exceptional courage and bravery. He crushed 5 pillboxes with his tank tracks. He was giving target designations to the tank commander. On 22 July 1943, the tank was hit and set on fire in the village of Tikhotsky. Comrade SAMOSHIN, being seriously wounded, drove the tank into cover and took all measures to extinguish the fire. He was unable to suppress the flames and the motor stalled. Only after that, he agreed to be pulled out of the burning tank.

He deserves state award – order “PATRIOTIC WAR II CLASS”.”

 

Research of the Order of the Red Star:

“During the fighting from 17 January to 01 February 1943, acting as part of the crew of the Guard Senior Lieutenant KHVOSTOV, he participated in 7 armoured attacks. During this period, they inflicted the following losses to the enemy: destroyed 4 tanks, 2 SPGs, 5 guns, 9 mortars, 21 machine-gun nests. 17 pillboxes and dugouts with 150 enemy troops were crushed by the tracks.

He deserves state award – medal “FOR BRAVERY”. 05 February 1943

He deserves the order of the “RED STAR”  07 February 1943”
