Head of the counter-intelligence of the Caspian flotilla

 

 

Honorary Worker of the Cheka-GPU badge #2531 + award certificate

Made of solid silver enamels. It measures 26.23 mm in width, 42.25 mm in height and it weighs 11.6 grams without its screwplates.

The badge in a nice, decent condition with all details perfectly visible and medium overall wear. Most of the red enamel is original and problem free but the ‘X’ shows a repair in its center and top right part. The dark blue enamels on its bottom are problem free without repairs. The reverse clearly shows the badge’s serial number and the top part is firmly attached by two rivets. Its well fitted silver screwplate and protective plate are time period to the badge and its screw has not been shortened.

Its accompanying certificate mentions the badge and its serial number.

 

Medal for the Defense of the Caucasus with its document

Made of gold plated brass. The medal measures 32.08 mm in width, 37.10 mm in height including its eyelet and it weighs 16.6 grams without its suspension.

In excellent condition with crisp details and full gold plating. Both sides show several dings and scratches but nothing distracting from the overall appeal of the medal. Its connection ring has not been cut and the medal comes with its original double layer steel suspension.

Its document with ‘SMERSH’ stamp is in nice condition without tears or rips but does show some folding lines.

Approximately 20 physical documents, IDs and directives named to Captain Borovkov are included in this lot. Scans of these can be found in the picture gallery and in the document here we added some notes to clarify what information they contain.

23.02.1936 – Head of the Nebylovo district NKVD, Jr.Lieutenant of State Security, Ivanono region.
21.06.1937 – Head of 5th section of the 3 department NKVD, Ivanovo region.
22.08.1938 – Lieutenant of State Security, Ivanono region.
18.11.1942 – Head of the counter-intelligence department of the Caspian flotilla.
22.02.1943 – Captain of State Security.
03.11.1944 – Lt. Colonel of State security.

 

Citation text for BOROVKOV’s Order of the Red Banner 204017:

Comrade BOROVKOV is the head of the flotillas counter-intelligence department.
He conducted a great deal of work for cleansing the flotilla ranks off of the malevolent elements.
He effectively supported the combat operations for liberation of the Crimean peninsula (landing operations on the Kerch peninsula near the cape Tarkhan and ton Kerch).
He provided great help to the Kerch sea crossing site, which contributed to the success its success.
He was personally present in the combat area of the Chushka foreland, Kerch peninsula, and acted bravely under the enemy artillery and aerial bombardment. His calm conduct strengthened confidence of the other officers and enlisted men.
