Soviet Partisan Medal 1st class

Variation 1 without a raised rim on its obverse

Considerably more rare compared to the later variation

Made of solid silver. It measures 32.18 mm in diameter and 2.77 mm in thickness. The height of the medal is 37.13 mm (including the eyelet) and it weighs 21.3 gram.

This early medal is in decent, about average condition with most details still visible on both sides. Both sides show several tiny dings and scratches but none distracting from its overall appearance. The silver connection ring has been cut and the double layer steel suspension is time period to the medal.

Scarce variation

The Medal “To a Partisan of the Patriotic War” (Russian: Медаль Партизану Отечественной войны) was a World War II Soviet award established in two classes. This was done on February 2, 1943, by decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. It recognised the courage of the partisans in their struggle to free the Soviet Motherland behind enemy lines. Its statute was amended by a further decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in 1947.
