Description
Soviet Order of the Red Banner #304455
Krasnokamsky Mint (KMD) variation
Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 37.96 mm in width and 46.23 mm in height and weighs 27.2 gram without its suspension. Its serial number and mint mark are located at the 6 o’clock position of its reverse.
This original order of the Red Banner is in excellent, above average condition. The details are crisp and the enamel only shows minuscule flaking at the right side edge of the large red banner. It looks like there is a minor chip on the edge of the 9 o’clock ray of the center star but this is a production error. The enamel just wasn’t filled right up till the edge of the center wreath. The gold plating is mostly present and covered with an appealing patina.
The Order of the Red Banner recognized military deeds. Before the establishment of the Order of Lenin, the order functioned as the highest (and practically the only) military order of the USSR. Practically all well-known Soviet commanders became Cavaliers of the Order. Also awarded to NKVD personnel.
