Order of the Patriotic War 1st class and Order of the Red Star set

Awarded to Major Nikolai Vasilievich Karpenko (Николай Васильевич Карпенко)

 

For providing critical support during the Vistula river crossing, repelling 4 enemy counterattacks, destroying 13 machine guns, neutralizing 5 enemy batteries, and eliminating 200 soldiers. Additionally, he effectively organized anti-tank defenses resulting in the destruction of 590 personnel, 7 mortar and 2 artillery batteries, 33 machine guns, 8 bunkers, and 3 observation posts

 

 

Order of the Patriotic War 1st class #102402

Made of solid gold, silver and enamels. Measures 45.89 mm in height, 44.17 mm in width and it weighs 30.5 grams without its screwplate. The serial number is located at the 6 o’clock position and the mint mark Monetni Dvor at the 12 o’clock position of its reverse.

In nice condition with its details perfectly visible and few dings and scratches on either side. The red and white enamels appear to have been restored. This is done professionally with hot enamels in such a manner that we had to inspect it several times to be sure. Its screw has not been shortened and its accompanying silver screwplate fits perfectly well.

 

Order of the Red Star #118801

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 46.22 mm in height, 48.10 mm in width and it weighs 28.7 grams without its screwplate. The serial number is located at the 6 o’clock position and the mint mark Monetni Dvor above the screwpost on its reverse.

In nice condition with most details visible and medium wear to the raised parts, such as the soldier. The enamels on this piece appear to be restored as well, in an equally professional way as those on the Order of the Patriotic War. The screw of this order has also not been shortened, and it comes with a well-fitted silver screwplate.

 

Brief description of his feat of arms or achievements for his Order of the Patriotic War 1st class:

Awarded for performing the duties of an artillery regiment commander, as a result of which support was provided to rifle units when crossing the river Vistula, and also, being under enemy fire, organized support for units to consolidate on a bridgehead in the Gurna-Kempa Chotecka area. At the same time, 4 enemy counterattacks were repelled, 13 heavy and light machine guns were destroyed, the fire of 3 mortar and 2 artillery batteries was suppressed, and up to 200 enemy soldiers and officers were destroyed. As chief of staff, he skillfully organized the division’s anti-tank defense.

 

Brief description of his feat of arms or achievements for his Order of the Red Star:

Awarded for skillful maneuvering and fire planning of the division during the offensive battles in the area of Upper Skvorchee – Olkhovets, Orlovskaya region, resulting in the supported regiment advancing with minimal losses, and the enemy suffering the destruction of up to 590 soldiers and officers, suppression of fire from 7 mortar batteries and 2 artillery batteries, 33 stationary and handheld machine guns, fire from 8 active bunkers, destruction of 3 observation posts in buildings, and dispersal of up to 800 soldiers and officers.
