“People’s Architect of the USSR” – was an honorary title awarded for special merits in the development of Soviet architecture, outstanding creative activity in the field of urban planning, for the creation of modern civil, industrial and rural architectural complexes, buildings and structures that have received national recognition.
As it was established later than some other similar highest degrees of recognition such as People’s Medical Doctor, Artist, and Performance Artist (only in 1985 instead of 1967) and due to the relatively limited number of people working in this profession, the title of People’s Architect was awarded far less than the others. The Architect’s medal is thus much harder to find.
