Soviet Medal for the Salvation of the Drowning
This Medal for the Salvation of the Drowning is made of gilded non-ferrous metal. Measurements; 32.09 mm in diameter and 14.9 gram in weight (not including its suspension).
The medal is in a nice but worn condition. Some of the higher laying parts like the swimmer’s face show medium wear and much gold plating is lost. The reverse is in better condition with all details present. Its ribbon, as well as its suspension are time period to the medal.
Awarded to any person (of any nationality) for courage, bravery and selflessness whilst rescuing a person/people from water. Also awarded for outstanding resourcefulness preventing drowning or for excellence in organizing of rescue operations in Soviet waters or of Soviet citizens.
