Variation 1 with a separately soldered eyelet 

Medal for the Defense of the Polar Region: made of gilded brass. Measures 32.21 mm in width, 37.48 mm in height, including the eyelet and it weighs 16.9 gram without its suspension. 

This medal is in nice condition with several dings and small scratches. Most details however are perfectly visible and much gold plating is still present. The double layer suspension is time period to the medal as is the ribbon. Its connection ring has been cut.

The Medal “For the Defense of the Soviet Transarctic” was awarded to all participants in the defense of the Soviet Arctic region – soldiers of the Red Army, Navy and troops of the NKVD, as well as persons from the civilian population who took part in the defense of the North.
