Voenkomat Variation
Made of gold plated brass. The medal measures 32.05 mm in diameter, 37.07 mm in height and weighs 16.3 grams without its suspension.
This medal is in excellent condition with crisp details and most gold plating present. The brass suspension is time period to the medal and its connection ring has been cut.
This medal is one of the post-war issues that were awarded by a Voenkomat (Military Commissariat) at the veteran’s place of residence. The reasons for the late issue could vary but in most instances, the Voenkomat medals were “catch-up” awards to those who had taken part in the battle and then somehow overlooked by the awarding authorities during WW2 and in the immediate post-war years.
Awarded to all Soviet military and civilians who participated in the defence of the Caucasus region during WW2 between July 1942 and 9 October 1943.
