Description
Soviet Medal for the Defense of Sevastopol with document
Variation 2 ‘Voenkomat’
Awarded to Nikolay Pavlovich Klokov (Николай Павлович Клоков)
Made of gilded brass. It measures 32.11 mm in width, 37.04 mm in height including its eyelet and it weighs 15.7 gram without its suspension.
This relatively ‘voenkomat’ medal is in excellent condition with all details present and much gold plating still present. The higher laying parts of the obverse of the medal show light wear only and the lettering on its reverse is crisp. The brass suspension is time period to the medal.
Its accompanying document is in decent condition without repairs. It is dated 12 January 1970 and numbered K 002894. Some numbers are written on the back as can be seen in the picture gallery.
These ‘Voenkomat’ medals are post-war issued medals that were awarded by a Voenkomat (Military Commissariat) at the veteran’s place of residence. The reasons for the late issue could vary but in most instances, the medals were “catch-up” awards to those who had taken part in the battle and then somehow overlooked by the awarding authorities during WW2 and in the immediate post-war years.
